Women's Cross Country Place Sixth at Seahawk Invitational

WILMINGTON, NC - The Pfeiffer women's cross country team placed sixth at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington. East Carolina won the race while Campbell finished second.
Pfeiffer was led by sophomore Cori Newton who posted a 5k time of 21:21 and finished in 39th place overall. “Cori has ran great since getting back on campus. She is running with a new sense of confidence and is incredibly focused,” remarked Coach Nolt.
Right behind Newton was junior Justine Serje who finished in 21:30. Janna Featherstone was Pfeiffer's third runner, coming in with the time of 21:38, four spots behind her teammates. In her first college race, freshman Mary Stegall clocked a time of 22:03. Rounding out the scoring for Pfeiffer was sophomore Trista Byers who finished in 22:14.
Just four seconds behind Byers was junior Christie Baran. Baran finished sixth for Pfeiffer with a time of 22:18, in her very first cross country race. Talking about Baran, Nolt said “Christie has been a great addition to the team. Never having run cross country before this year this season , she may be an important factor in our teams success.” Kristen Hatley made her college debut with a 25:35 time, followed by senior Nina Ubabuike who finished in 26:11.
Pfeiffer's women's team has two weeks to get ready for the Wingate Invitational on September 21.
