Pfeiffer Baseball Alum Yates Named CVCL Offensive Player of the Year

MISENHEIMER, NC - Former Pfeiffer University baseball standout Jacob Yates has been named Offensive Player of the Year by the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate Baseball League (CVCL) the league announced recently.  Yates, spending the majority of his time as an outfielder, played with the CVCL’s Virginia Cardinals for the 2013 summer season.  Yates also saw some time on the mound for the Cardinals during the summer, serving as the team’s hurler for six games.

Yates, the logical choice for Offensive Player of the Year, amassed a league-leading batting average of .410 for the 2013 season and also led the CVCL with a .526 on base percentage.  Serving in the leadoff spot for the Cardinals, Yates also earned league All-Star status for his staggering offensive statistics.  Yates played in a total of 23 games for the Cardinals during the summer season, getting a hit in all but seven of the contests.

"I am proud of Jacob's accomplishment," said Head Coach Dusty Blake. "He is a very talented player and a hard worker. He had a great summer."

During his three years in a Falcons uniform Yates certainly made his mark on the program.  In 2013 Yates played in 49 games and enjoyed a .320 batting average and a .405 on base percentage.   As a junior in 2012, Yates compiled a batting average of .283 and an on base percentage of .374 while starting in all 50 games.  In his first year as a Falcon, Yates started in all 49 games as a sophomore and broke out with a .332 batting average and a .411 on base percentage.  Yates was also named to the 2011 Conference Carolinas All-Tournament Team during his time at Pfeiffer.

Yates currently is an Assistant Baseball Coach at Danville Community College in Danville, VA where he serves as the hitting coach and works with position players.
