Men's Soccer Suffers First Defeat of Season
September 13, 2013
MORROW, GA- The Pfeiffer University men’s soccer team (1-1-1) dropped its first match of the season, an 8-0 decision to Clayton State (1-1-1). The Lakers scored three times in the contest's first 25 minutes, and five times in the first half. Pfeiffer had been unbeaten in two regular season contests, and three preseason matches, prior to Friday evening’s defeat. Alhagi Toure scored three goals for Clayton State.
In the 10th minute, Toure took a long pass and scored from 12 yards out. The goal was the first allowed by Pfeiffer freshman goalkeeper Nicolas Dulac and the Falcon defense on the season, ending the scoreless streak at 220 minutes. Toure would attack again, five-and-a-half minutes later when he beat Dulac, for his third goal of the young season. In the 26th minute, Kevin Rodriguez pushed the Laker's lead to three when his strike from seven yards out found the back of the net. Trevor Dean put Pfeiffer’s lone shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but Lakers keeper Nick Punter made the stop. Clayton St. would score two more goals in a 2:07 span to take the commanding lead going into the half.
Toure added his third score in the 58th minute as the Lakers high-powered offense would score three goals in the second half.
“You have to give them credit they are an outstanding team,” said Bob Reasso, head coach of the Falcons. “They were on tonight; it seemed like everything they hit in the first half found the back of the net. All the credit goes to them. We’ll let this one go and regroup for tomorrow.”
Clayton St. had a 23-13 lead in shots, with each team firing 11 shots in the second half. Dulac made five saves for the Falcons, while Punter and Kyler Kesley combined on the shutout.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow at 5 p.m. when they take on North Georgia in the final contest of the Loch Shop Classic hosted by Clayton St.
