MISENHEIMER, N.C. - In a match that had been postponed from September 25th due to inclement weather, the Pfeiffer University women's tennis team (1-0) handed the Catawba Indians (2-1) their first loss of a young season. The Lady Falcons bested Catawba in all six of their singles matches, and put up even more convincing numbers in doubles play.
Behind solid performances from two-thirds of their roster, the Lady Falcons outscored Catawba 72-20 in total singles competition. Pfeiffer was even more spectacular in doubles play, where the Lady Falcons outscored Catawba 24-8 in total sets. Freshman Olivia Nelms started off the day with a shutout of Catawba's Liz Renteria, taking their first set 6-0. Nelms would set the tone for Pfeiffer's uneblievable day, finishing off her opponent 6-1 in the second set. The Lady Falcons would continue to give the Indians problems when the duo of junior Taylor Lindsay and sophomore Valeria Mendoza delivered a monster blow to Catawba's pair of Sloan Kessler and Liz Renteria with an 8-3 decision.
The Lady Falcons return to the court this weekend when they travel to Fayetteville to compete in the Methodist Invite.
