Men's Soccer Crushes Chowan in Non-Conference Action
October 9, 2013
MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Behind a dominating offensive performance that included 25 total shots, more than half of which were on goal, the Pfeiffer University men's soccer team defeated Chowan on their home turf, 7-0. With the win the Falcons improve to 4-6-1 on the season and Chowan falls to 0-9. The shutout was the second of the 2013 season for freshman Nicolas Dulac, and the second of his collegiate career.
Pfeiffer wasted absolutely no time getting on the board as Paco Cortez placed a beautiful cross in Chowan's penalty area which was quickly deflected by the Hawks' goalkeeper Grayson Smith. Following the deflection, Junior Chandler Ligas collected the loose ball in front of the goal mouth and sent a splendidly placed shot past Smith and into the net for the Falcons' first goal of the match. The goal came just 41 seconds into the match, the quickest tally for the Falcons' so far this season. Ligas led the Falcons with two goals on the evening, scoring his second of the match with an unassisted shot at the near post for Pfeiffer's seventh goal of the game.
Almost 18 full minutes following the Falcons' first tally, senior Simon Leslie hit an uncontested shot from 25 yards out to beat the Hawks' keeper for Pfeiffer's second goal of the game. The Falcons continued their pressure on Chowan, receiving goals from almost half of their starting lineup. Pfeiffer was led offensively by freshman Nathan Regis who bested all players with six total shots for the outing. In the 24th minute Regis would capitalize on his effort when he collected a cross from senior Aldo Ramirez at the top of the box and slipped it past Smith for the Falcons' third goal of the game. The assist would be Ramirez's first of three on the match.
When asked about the match, Head Coach Bob Reasso stated, "We had a good outing by our guys today." The match was stopped by the officials in the 72nd minute due to unplayable field conditions caused by inclement weather. The win was awarded to Pfeiffer once it was determined that the match met the standards of the "complete game" rule.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday October 12th when they return to their home pitch against North Greenville. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
