Pfeiffer Cross Country Has One of Fastest Days In School History


CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Pfeiffer competed at the Royal Cross-Country Challenge on Friday where the men finished 13th, and the women finished 18th. For the 8-K race, Pfeiffer's man averaged a time of 27:44, while the ran the 5-k course in an average time of 21:17.

The men were led by senior Cody Jones who ran a personal best time of 27:25. Freshman Chris Laughlin was not far behind, finishing in 27:29. Henry Furman was Pfeiffer's third runner, finishing in 27:46 just ahead of sophomore Dillon Edwards who finished and 27:53. Josh Wilhoit was the fifth scoring runner for Pfeiffer, finishing just outside of the 27 minute mark at 28:00. Nick Owens was just five seconds back and sixth for Pfeiffer.

The women also had a fast day, even with three runners not suiting up. Cori Newton again led the way for the Falcons, finishing with a career fast 19:53. Janna Featherstone was just 20 seconds behind and also ran her career best time of the 20:13. Mary Stegall was third for Pfeiffer finishing with a time of 21:12, and Trista Byers fourth on the team finishing in 21:58.

Rounding out the scoring for Pfeiffer was senior Nina Ubabuike with a personal best time of 23:07. Kristen Hatley finished just behind Nina with a time of 23:20.

The cross-country team races next at Frank Liske Park in the Conference Carolinas meet on October 25.
