Men's Soccer Runs Winning Streak to Four; Offense Continues Torrid Pace

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, NC – The Pfeiffer men’s soccer team (7-6-1) ran its winning streak to four in a row with a 4-3 victory over St. Andrews on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Nathan Regis scored twice and senior Aldo Ramirez handed out two assists in the victory.

Over the course of the four game winning streak, the offense has been firing on all cylinders. The Falcons have scored 20 times over the four games and Regis has recorded at least one goal in each of the four wins. In fact, Regis has tallied six scores and three assists in that span and Ramirez has dished out seven assists over the same stretch.

The Falcons fell behind early, giving up a goal to Ciao Liberatti of the Knights in the 19th minute. Liberatti lofted a shot from outside the 18-yard box and beat freshman keeper Nicolas Dulac.

The Falcons would respond in a big way, scoring four unanswered goals. Regis and Ramirez hooked up for Pfeiffer’s first goal of the match in the 35th minute as the latter set up Regis, who scored from the top of the 18-yard box.  Just over five minutes into the second half, Corey Davis sent a cross from the left side to Regis who beat the keeper for his seventh tally of the season. The freshman is now in a tie for third place among the top goal scorers in the conference, despite missing three matches due to injury. 11 minutes later, Kyle Toler recorded the Falcons third score of the afternoon on a deflection off Ramirez’s corner kick. Corey Davis added the fourth and final goal of the match as freshman Paco Cortez set him up with a cross that Davis put in the open net.

However, the Knights would claw back and scored twice in a 9:28 span to cut the deficit to one. Edson Quinarelli tallied an unassisted score and Caio Lima beat Dulac in the 83rd minute to keep St. Andrews within striking distance. The Falcons defense stepped up and denied a couple opportunities for the Knights to score, coming away with the 4-3 win.

“I was disappointed with our effort in the first half,” said Head Coach Bob Reasso. “We came out better in the second half and scored some goals. Credit St. Andrews for fighting back, but our lack of composure let them back into the game as well. At the end of the day, a win is a win and we’ll move forward from here.”

Dulac made three saves in net to improve to 7-6-1 and Leandro Custodio made 10 saves. Pfeiffer held an advantage in shots at 24-16, including an 11-5 lead in the first 45 minutes. The Falcons also dominated in corner kicks, tallying a 10-3 advantage.

The win improved Pfeiffer’s home record to 5-1 on the season. The Falcons look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday when they host Barton at 4 p.m.
