Buster's Two Goals Advance Women's Soccer to Conference Tournament Semifinals for Fourth Consecutive Season
November 4, 2013
MISENHEIMER, NC - Freshman Brae Buster scored twice as the Pfeiffer women's soccer team (12-6) advanced to the Conference Carolinas semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Converse (9-10) on Monday afternoon. This marked the fourth straight season that the Lady Falcons won their quarterfinal matchup under Head Coach Elijah Denton.
Pfeiffer was on the offensive the majority of the first half, holding a 16-5 advantage in shots after the first 45 minutes. Pfeiffer put 13 of those on goal and had the ball in the Valkyries end constantly. Buster put the Lady Falcons up for good with her goal in the seventh minute off a nicely played cross from sophomore Aaliyah Jackson. The constant offense kept Converse goalkeeper Gabie Chamberland on her heels, but she made a handful of tough saves to keep Converse close. With less than two minutes left in the half, junior Kayla Rodriguez lofted a corner kick into the box and freshman Miracle Campbell deflected it in for her fifth strike of the season.
Buster tacked on the team's third goal, and her tenth of the season, from the top of the 18 box. Her shot was perfectly lofted over the fingertips of Chamberland in the 55th minute. The Valykries ended Pfeiffer's shutout bid in the 71st minute as Alex Marquez fired a shot just over Kate Halligan's hand, for their only score of the afternoon.
Pfeiffer ended with a 21-10 advantage in shots and a 6-3 lead in corner kicks. Halligan finished with six saves, improving to 4-5 on the season. Chamberland made 14 stops in the contest.
With the victory, Pfeiffer advanced to the semifinals and their opponent and time will depend on the results of the rest of the Quarterfinal action. The semifinal will take place on Thursday.
