Women's Hoops Falls to Benedict College on the Road

Box Score

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Despite a 13-point performance from junior center Lauren White, the Pfeiffer University women's basketball team fell to Benedict College on the road Saturday afternoon, 61-53.  With the loss the Falcons fall to 1-4 on the season while Benedict College improves to 3-1.

Pfeiffer jumped out to an early lead on the Tigers when White drained a jump shot and then converted from the charity stripe to complete the three point play.  Benedict took the lead shortly after Pfeiffer's run when Amanda Toliver was fouled while taking a three-point shot and capitalized on the ensuing free throws.  The Falcons quickly tied the game again on a jumper by White, making the score even at five apiece.  The Tigers capitalized on their next few possessions and following a 5-0 run, never relinquished the lead again.

Benedict took a 17-point lead into halftime but the Falcons refused to lie down for the home team.  Following a much needed 3-pointer from freshman Ariana Tillman with 14:24 left in the game, Pfeiffer began to mount their comeback.  The Falcons were 6-17 from three-point land with five of those six baskets coming in the second half and at crucial points in the game.  Pfeiffer relied on the shooting prowess of freshman Hallie Boggs and junior Carter Williams to pull within eight points of the Tigers with 2:35 left to play.  Despite Pfeiffer's best effort in the final few minutes and a late jumper from freshman Alyssa Harvell, eight points was as close as the Lady Falcons would get.

Boggs joined White in the double-figure scoring column by chipping in 12 points of her own, half of which came from beyond the 3-point mark.  As a team, the Falcons shot 35 percent from the field and 60 percent from the free throw line, tossing in 18 points off of turnovers.

The Falcons return to action on November 26th when they take on Francis Marion at home.  Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. in Merner Gymnasium.
