Hot Shooting Leads Men's Basketball to Blowout Victory Over Barber Scotia

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's basketball shot (3-6) a season-high 50.7 percent from the field en route to a 96-66 blowout of Barber Scotia (0-12). Pfeiffer shot a scorching 59.4 percent in the second half and scored their most points in a game all season. 10 different Falcons recorded at least five points and were led by 23 points from freshman Mike Smith.

The Falcons dominated on the glass with a 50-30 lead in rebounds. David McNair and Joe Ledbetter each recorded 12 rebounds on the night and Smith added nine.

Matt Ellwood connected on three of Pfeiffer's season-high 10 three's in the contest and had 13 points. Fellow Sophomore AJ Clark also had 13 points to go with four assists.

6-11 Sophomore Silvere Aluko was a force again defensively, as the center blocked five shots, all in the first half, and entered the game seventh in the nation averaging 3.3 blocks per game.

The Falcons used a 10-3 spurt to extend an early 24-19 lead to a 12 point advantage and never looked back. McNair grabbed eight of his 12 boards in the first half rebounds as seven different Falcons scored at least six points, led by eight each from Smith and Ellwood. Smith also added seven rebounds and four assists in the first 20 minutes. Pfeiffer went into the break with a 28-14 advantage on the glass. Carlos Benton paced the Sabres with 15 first half points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and hit three shots from long range in the first half.    

For the night, Pfeiffer held a 42-22 advantage in points in the paint and 21-4 lead in second chance points. The Falcons bench outscored Barber Scotia's reserves 33-9.

Benton finished with a game-high 25 points and hit five threes.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 21 as they travel to Tampa, FL to take on Eckerd at 7 p.m.
