Men's and Women's Swimming Defeat Mars Hill


MARS HILL, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's and women's swimming teams enjoyed a successful afternoon at Mars Hill. The men defeated the host Lions by a score of 137-125, while the women came away with a 129-116 victory.

On the women's side, the 200-yard medley team of Jessica Burgess, Bailey Holshouser, Kate Galichenko and Cydney Donnelly posted a time of 1:58.93, 1.2 seconds better than their seed time. Holshouser won the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:07.49 and the 100-yard breastsroke with a time of 1:16.87. Galichenko finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:44.49 and the 200-yard Individual Medley, in 2:18.14.

For the men, Max Hamilton took the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 10:38.05, besting his seed time by over three seconds. Hamilton finished 24.08 seconds quicker than the second place swimmer. Valentin Kaufmann earned the win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.71 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:57.49. Dmitry Kozlov recorded the win in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing 10 seconds ahead with a time of 2:05.47, and fellow freshman Dima Turkin won the 100-yard freestyle. Kozlov also won the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard Individual Medley.

The men's and women's teams return to action on Saturday, Jan. 18 when they host Warren Wilson for Senior Night. The meet begins at 3 p.m.
