Four Falcons Score In Double Figures but Women's Basketball Can't Top Barton

Box Score

WILSON, N.C. – The Pfeiffer women’s basketball team (2-14, 1-7 CC) put five scorers in double figures, but fell at Barton (8-8, 5-3) by a final score of 95-80. The 80 points scored by the Falcons was a season-high for a game that ended in regulation, narrowly topping the 78 points scored against Erskine on Saturday.

Freshmen guards Alexis Stallard and Ariana Tillman led the way for Pfeiffer, scoring 15 and 13 respectively. Tillman added nine rebounds, three assists and four steals on the night.

Conference Carolinas leading scorer Nyesha Willie scored a game-high 28 points, going 8 of 14 from the field and connecting on all 10 of her free throw attempts. Willie came into the game averaging 23.5 points per game, a full 6 points per game ahead of the second leading scorer.

Caila Carter posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs and Brianna Thomas missed only three shots on her way to a 17-point night.

Amy Steller and Brittney Washington each had 12 points of the bench for Pfeiffer and Carlisha Holivay added 10 points and eight rebounds as a reserve.

The Falcons were dealt a big blow when starting guard Caressa Samuel went down with an ankle injury in the first minute of play and didn’t return.

Barton had a 44-33 lead going into the break and extended that lead in the second half thanks to 55.2 percent shooting from the field. The Bulldogs went 4 of 7 from behind the arc and went to the free throw line 22 times in the final half.

Pfeiffer converted on just 34.1 percent of their shots for the night but their pressure defense forced Barton into 25 turnovers. The Falcons have added an emphasis on three point shooting over the past two games, taking a combined 72 shots from behind the arc. Prior to those two games, Pfeiffer attempted more than 24 attempts once.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday when they travel to Limestone looking to avenge a 75-59 defeat on Dec. 7.
