Men's Basketball Suffers Tough Loss at Barton

WILSON, N.C. - For the third straight game, the Pfeiffer men's basketball team (4-13, 1-7 CC) shot below 38 percent from the field as they were defeated at Barton (9-8, 5-2) 83-59. Pfeiffer went 23 of 63 (36.5 percent) and hit only 2 of 11 three point attempts in the defeat. A balanced Bulldog attack overcame the Falcons as five Barton players scored in double figures, led by 15 from Brian McNair. Pfeiffer was paced by 17 from Mike Smith and 13 from AJ Clark. Sophomore center Silvere Aluko added eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Barton dominated the glass, outrebounding Pfeiffer 49-33, including 21 offensive rebounds. Barton's unselfish offense led to 22 assists on 28 made field goals.
Pfeiffer struggled from the get-go, converting on 33 percent of their first half field goals. The 25 first half points tied a season-low for points in a half as Barton took a 14 point lead into the break. Eight different Barton players scored in the first 20 minutes, led by eight from Travis McEachern.
Pfeiffer warmed up a bit in the second half, but was never able to get the game within single digits.
Barton converted on 19 of 24 attempts from the free throw line and held a 32-17 advantage in bench points. The Falcons never led in the contest.
Pfeiffer will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they travel to Limestone for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
