Baseball Picked to Finish Fifth in Preseason Poll

High Point, NC – Conference Carolinas Baseball Coaches have voted the University Mount Olive as the baseball team to beat team coming into the 2014 season. Pfeiffer has been selected to finish fifth in the preseason voting.  

Despite having a young team that featured 17 underclassmen and was picked to finish seventh in the Conference Carolinas in 2013, Head Coach Dusty Blake guided Pfeiffer to 18 wins and an 11-11 conference record, earning the Falcons a fourth-place finish. The Falcons led the conference in home runs, hitting 46 long balls and the pitching staff was second in fewest walks allowed with 135.

Pfeiffer returns outfielder Jon Gray who was selected to the Conference Carolinas First Team a season ago. Gray finished the regular season hitting .354 and slugging .646. Gray led the conference with 12 home runs and 20 doubles on the year and had a .404 on base percentage.

Also returning for Pfeiffer is infielder Kyle Hackney who posted a .306 batting average and drove in a team-high 31 runs in 2013.

Pfeiffer opens the season on Sat., Feb. 1 when they travel to Florence, SC when they take on Mars Hill at 5 p.m. Conference play begins on Feb. 28 when the Falcons travel to Belmont Abbey and five of Pfeiffer’s final seven games are at home.
