Hirini Records Career-High In Kills as Men's Volleyball Falls In Lindenwood Classic Opener

Lindenwood, MO - The Pfeiffer men's volleyball suffered a tough 3-2 loss against Quincy (4-3) in the opener of the 2014 Lindenwood Classic. The Falcons seemed to be poised for the win after capturing a 25-20 third set victory to take a 2-1 lead, but Quincy rallied for the final two sets and the win. Sophomore Sonny Hirini had a career-high 20 kills for the Falcons in defeat.
Wyatt Hamilton and Kyle Landigran also had career-highs in kills with 14 and 13 respectively. The trio combined for 47 of the team's 56 kills on the evening.
Quincy had four players in double digit kills, led by 14 from Jarrod Kelso. Quincy hit .232 as a team, while the Falcons posted a .246 hitting percentage.
Pfeiffer had 13 total blocks on the night, led by six from Fabio Diniz and five from Landigran.
Pfeiffer took the first set 30-28 to take the lead. Quincy responded with a 25-19 victory in the second set. In the third frame, Pfeiffer hit .400 as a team and prevailed 25-20. Quincy would not be denied the victory, grabbing the final two sets by scores of 25-23 and 16-14.
Pfeiffer is back in action on Saturday, taking on the host Lindenwood at 9 a.m. and then playing McKendree at 11 a.m.
