February 5, 2014
Misenheimer, N.C. – Coming off the heels of an impressive win against Lees-McRae the Pfeiffer women’s basketball team (3-17, 2-10 CC) got off to an early lead before falling in an 88-56 decision versus Mount Olive (13-7, 8-4 CC) on Wednesday evening.
The Falcons jumped to an early 7-2 lead off of a layup by junior Lauren White. The Trojans then answered with a 7-2 run of their own to knot the game at 9-9. Mount Olive made a layup with 13:06 left to play in the half to take the lead 11-9, a lead they would never relinquish. The Falcons answered bucket-for-bucket with the Trojans tying the game at 17 a piece before Mount Olive went on a 23-12 run to take a commanding lead at the half.
Mount Olive posted four players in double figures led by seniors Katie Paschal who had 19 and Jasmine McDonald who had 15 and pulled down nine rebounds. Paschal displayed a scorching 100% from the field in the first half until finally missing a shot with 6:15 left in the game.
Pfeiffer cut the lead down to eight before Mount Olive capitalized on a 16-0 run. The Falcons went on to shoot only 28 percent in the second half, a figure that Mount Olive looked to take advantage of, outscoring the Falcons 48-27 in the half.
The Trojans had a big advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Falcons 40-30. Mount Olive also received some help from the charity stripe going 16-24 while the Falcons went to the line only 11 times capitalizing on seven.
Pfeiffer will look to get back on track when they host Belmont Abbey on Saturday, February 8. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
