Men's Volleyball Topples Mount Olive; Brewer and Specian Record Double-Doubles

MISENHEIMER, NC - After dropping the first game, the Pfeiffer men's volleyball team (4-5, 3-1 CC) rallied to win the next three games in impressive fashion over Mount Olive (4-7, 3-3 CC) on Tuesday evening in Merner Gym. Michael Brewer and David Specian recorded double-doubles for the Falcons who have won three straight conference games.

Mount Olive came out of the gate strong and took the first game by a final score of 25-21. Head Coach Paul Lawson rallied the troops after that loss, and Pfeiffer completely dominated the second game. After a kill by the Trojans' Steven Cruse cut Pfeiffer's lead to 4-3, the Falcons took 21 of the final 27 points to grab a 25-9 victory. The Falcons benefitted from 11 attack errors in the game as Mount Olive hit -.147. Pfeiffer needed only six kills in the set.

Mount Olive's struggles continued in the third frame as the Trojans hit -.091 with seven errors. Pfeiffer hit .280 as a team and easily secured the 25-15 win.

The final game was competitive before Pfeiffer came away victorious. Mount Olive took the lead on a Pfeiffer error, giving the visitors a 15-14 lead. The Falcons won the next four points thanks to the serving of Kyle Landrigan. On two separate occasions, Mount Olive cut the lead to one, but the Falcons refused to lose. A monster block by Fabio Diniz and Landrigan closed out the game.

Sonny Hirini led Pfeiffer with 13 kills and Brewer added 12 kills and hit .529 for the contest, while producing 10 digs. Specian dished out 43 assists and added 11 digs for his first double-double of the season. Diniz finished with three solo blocks and five assisted stuffs as Pfeiffer had a season-high 15 team blocks.

The Trojans were led by Cruse who finished with 15 kills and Angel Dache had 10.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday night when they host Lees-McRae at 7 p.m. Pfeiffer was scheduled to take on Erskine tomorrow, but that game has been postponed due to inclement weather.
