Baseball Hammers North Greenville to Open Weekend Home Series

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Behind a whopping ten strikeouts from sophomore hurler Ethan Greene, the Pfeiffer University baseball team made quick work of visiting North Greenville Friday afternoon.  The Falcons had 20 total hits as a team en route to a 14-2 victory and their seventh conference win.  Pfeiffer improves to 17-11 overall and 7-3 in Conference Carolinas with the victory, while North Greenville falls to 4-21 on the season and 1-6 in conference play on the loss.

The Falcons got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning with five runs on five hits.  With freshman Dylan Goodman in scoring position, junior Dalton Lindley belted a double to left center field sending Goodman home and putting Pfeiffer on the board first.  Lindley finished with three hits and a game-high four RBIs bringing his season total to 17.  Three more runs came Pfeiffer's way in the bottom of the sixth inning following a flurry of hits which started when Lindley knocked a double down the left field line.  Lindley scored on the very next at-bat when senior Kevin Price dropped a base hit into center field.  Seniors Jon Gray and Matt Wade, redshirt-senior Tyler Summers, and junior Anthony Allende all had hits for the home team in the sixth.  Pfeiffer notched six more runs to close out the game, picking up two runs on three hits in the seventh and four runs on three hits in the eighth.

Despite the scalding bats of the home team's offense, the real story of the game was Greene's performance on the mound.  Greene pitched seven straight frames without allowing a single hit, struck out ten batters giving him a team-leading 46 strikeouts for the season, and only allowed two earned runs.  He is now two strikeouts shy of 100 for his collegiate career, and only six strikeouts short of his last season total of 52.  Greene improves to 5-1 on the season with the win, and North Greenville's Stewart Hunt was credited with the loss, dropping him to 0-2.

Pfeiffer boasted four separate players with three hits on the afternoon, and three players with three or more RBIs.  Wade, Lindley, Price, and junior Cole McGraw all had three hits for the Falcons, while Lindley, McGraw, and Summers were best in the RBI column.

The Falcons return to action tomorrow when they take on North Greenville in the first game of a doubleheader.  Game one is set for a noon start time, with the second game of the day slated or a 3:00 p.m. start.
