Women's Golf Battles Impossible Conditions
March 23, 2014
PINEHURST, N.C. – After the first round of the 2014 Wingate Tournament, Pfeiffer women’s golf finds themselves sitting in 17th place after a rainy, tough first round.
With conditions being influenced by the weather, it was tough for the Falcons to catch a rhythm today as they shot 90 over par 378.
Armstrong sits alone at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 27 over par 315. Lee University sits in second as they are 14 strokes behind the Pirates.
The conditions affected the majority of the field as only four golfers went on to break 80. Queens’s Grace Glaze and Armstrong’s Jenna Birch are tied on the individual leaderboard as both players shot four over par 76.
Pfeiffer was led by Lauren Lyle who shot 17 over par 89, which has her tied for 47th on the individual board.
With a strong push tomorrow, the Falcons could sneak inside the top 10 of the tournament.
The 18-team field will continue play tomorrow in the second round of the 2014 Wingate Tournament.
