March 24, 2014
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranks the Limestone men's tennis team at 38th in the nation and ninth in the Southeast Region. Un-phased by the ranking and clearly focused on defending their home court, the Pfeiffer men's tennis team defeated the visiting Saints, 5-4. With the win Pfeiffer improves to 10-3 overall this season and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas action. Limestone falls to 6-5 and 2-2 in the conference with the loss.
Singles competition ended dead-even at three matches apiece, with Pfeiffer victories secured by sophomore Loic Minery, freshman Axel Woerner, and junior Stephen Miller. Minery and Woerner easily defeated their competition, however Miller's opponent made him work for his win. Stumbling a bit out of the block and dropping the first set 2-6 to Limestone's Daniel Lopez, Miller returned fire, securing the match off back-to-back 7-6 set victories. With the victories, Minery improves to 12-1 overall, Miller improves to 10-3, and Woerner improves to 8-4.
Pfeiffer took the edge in doubles play, winning two out of three matches. The duo of Minery and junior Sebastian Wernecke were victorious, capturing their match by a 9-7 margin. Also securing a doubles victory for the Falcons was the partnership of Miller and senior Bret Williams. Minery and Wernecke are now 10-2 in doubles play while Miller and Williams improve to 5-3.
The Falcons return to action on March 27th when they take on Belmont Abbey at home. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
