Nine Run Inning Sends Baseball to Fourth Straight Victory

Box Score

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Pfeiffer baseball team used a nine-run inning to cruise to a 15-4 road victory at conference foe Limestone on Friday evening.  The Falcons picked up their fourth consecutive win as they improve to 23-14, 10-5 CC while Limestone falls under .500 with a record of 18-19, 7-6 CC.

The host Saints jumped on the board first as they scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning.  Their three runs came off the bat of Chad Balderman as he belted a three-run homerun over the left field wall.

Pfeiffer did not get rattled by the three run inning, as they turned in an explosive inning of their own in the top of the fourth inning.

With runners on second and third, Tyler Summers put the Falcons on the board with a sacrifice fly to right center field.  With two outs in the inning and a runner on third, Matt Wade roped a double in the left field gap to cut the deficit to one run.  After Dylan Goodman was struck by a pitch to put runners on first and second, Dalton Lindley singled to left field to tie the game at three runs apiece.  Kyle Hackney sent a screaming line drive up the middle to bring in Goodman for the go ahead run.  Kevin Price continued the rout as he smacked a triple to left center to clear the bases as Pfeiffer now led 6-3 with two outs.  Jon Gray stepped up to the plate for the second time in the inning as he doubled to center field to score Price and extend the lead to four runs.  The scoring frenzy was not finished when Cole McGraw singled back up the middle to bring Gray in to score the eighth run of the inning.  The final run came as Summers singled to right field to cap off the inning with his second RBI in the inning, and the ninth run of the inning.

Despite the explosive 12 runs in one inning, the two teams combined for five hits over the next three innings.

The Falcons captured three more runs in the top of the eighth inning as they ran their tally to 12 unanswered runs.

With bases loaded and one out, McGraw popped a sacrifice fly to left field.  The Falcons now led 10-3 with runners on second and third and two away in the inning.  After Summers was intentionally walked to load the bases, Anthony Allende singled to left field to bring in two runs and extend the lead to nine.

Limestone mustered up one final run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Cooper Gunter hit a solo shot to left field.

Pfeiffer added three more runs in the top of the ninth inning as they crumbled any Limestone comeback thoughts.

Kyle Hackney connected on his second homerun of the season with a two-run shot to deep left field.  After Price doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, Gray knocked in his second run of the game with an RBI single to left center.

Keith Little picked up the win for the Falcons as he improved to 4-3 on the season.  Little captured the win by pitching nine complete innings and giving up four runs on nine hits.

Pfeiffer saw three players in the three-hit column as Gray, Allende, and Hackney combined 9-for-16 with seven RBIs and six runs between them.

The Falcons return to action tomorrow as they set to complete the series at Limestone with a doubleheader starting at noon.
