WILSON, NC – The Pfeiffer softball team (15-17-1, 5-4-1 CC) won the first game of its doubleheader at Barton (13-16-1, 4-5-1) by a score of 7-2. In game two, the team’s battled to an 8-8 tie after the game was called due to darkness after eight innings of play.

In the opener, Rachel Crowder went 2-for-2 with two runs, a home run and four RBI’s as she led Pfeiffer to the five-run victory. The Falcons used a four run sixth inning to take control of the matchup.

On the mound, Sam Jarmusch improved to 6-7 with a complete game. Jarmusch allowed only two runs on six hits and struck out six batters.

Hannah Jackson added three hits and an RBI in the victory.

In the second game, Pfeiffer stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With runners on first and second and two outs, Crowder hit an RBI single up the middle and Jessica Jackson followed with a two run base hit to left center.

Pfeiffer extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the third on a RBI base hit from Rebecca Foil. Barton answered with a single run in the bottom of the frame to make the score 4-1.

Lindsay Russell crushed a two run home run to left field in the top of the fourth to give the Falcons a 6-1 advantage. However, Barton again had the equalizer in the bottom of the inning, answering with two runs to cut the lead to 6-3.

That advantage held up until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Bulldogs scored three runs on five hits to knot the score at six apiece.

Pfeiffer again took the lead in the top of the eighth as Sadie Saine scored on a wild pitch. Russell plated the second run of the inning with an RBI double to left field. Again, the pesky Bulldogs answered with two scores in the bottom half of the eighth inning to tie the game, which led to the game being called due to darkness.

All but one player recorded a hit for Pfeiffer in the contest as Pfeiffer had 11 hits. Barton had 17 base hits on the afternoon, led by four from Rachel Jordan.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to UNC Pembroke for a doubleheader.
