Falcons Lose 3-2

Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer volleyball team lost to Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday evening by a score of 3-2 (23-30,30-27,20-30,30-24,15-10). Pfeiffer is now 6-4 for the year while Lenoir-Rhyne is also 6-4.

The two teams played evenly to start and Lenoir-Rhyne held a 10-9 lead early on. The Bears stretched their lead to 17-14 before the Falcons went on a 10-0 run capped off by two Petra Ljubicic kills to give Pfeiffer a 24-17 lead. The Falcons kept up their outstanding play and won game one 30-23.

The Bears fought back in game two. Pfeiffer got out to an early 9-5 advantage but the Bears quickly tied it at 9. The Falcons pulled back ahead and led at one point 22-19 but Lenoir-Rhyne went on 5-1 run to take a 24-23 lead. The Bears hung on for a 30-27 win.

Pfeiffer grabbed a quick 7-3 lead in game three. The game went back and forth after that with the Falcons holding on to a slim lead. A Victoria Parrish ace ended a 5-0 Falcon run that gave them a 26-17 advantage. The Falcons closed out game three by a score of 30-20 and took a two games to one lead.

Lenoir-Rhyne evened the match by winning game four. It was a very close game as neither team led by more then three points until the Bears led 22-21. Lenoir-Rhyne then went on a 5-0 run to take command. The Bears held on for a 30-24 win.

The Bears jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the fifth game. The Falcons fought back but could not catch up and fell 15-10.

Brittany Dickens led the Falcons with 19 kills. Petra Ljubicic added 16 kills. Morgan Leibert led Pfeiffer with 54 assists and 3 service aces.

Caroline Albertelli led the Bears with 13 kills. Lauren McCelland had 36 assists and three aces.

Pfeiffer will play again next Tuesday when they host Coker at 7:00 pm.
