Senior forward Tavares Cooper poured in 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 19 minutes of action. And four-time CVAC Player of the Week and National Player of the Year candidate, DeMario Grier, tallied 19 points and 3 steals in 20 minutes. |
Pfeiffer's improved defensive tenacity forced 15 first half turnovers and held Anderson to 33% shooitng at the intermission. TThe halftime score was 45-26. The 26 points being a season-low allowed by the Falcons.
DeMario Grier had 14 points on 6-9 shooting, including two 3-ptrs at the break. And as a team, Pfeiffer shot 49% from the floor, including 6-12 (50%) from behind the arc.
The second half started where the first half left off, with Pfeiffer applying its defensive pressure to stretch the lead to as many as 22 points. The Falcons would end up forcing another 15 turnovers in the half, for a total of 30 in the game.
Among the other contributors in the game were sophomore forward Logan Call, who chipped in with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Junior transfer Thomas Carr notched 12 points on 4-6 shooting from 3pt range and 2 steals. For the game, the Falcons shot 45.8% from being the arc (11-24 3pt) and 80% from the free throw line.
"It was another team effort, with 11 different guys contributing," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "Thomas Carr is seeing that hard work does pay off as he was 4-6 from behind the arc, the second game in a row he has made four 3-pointers. We again won the rebounding battle against a much bigger Anderson team, and Cooper continues to lead us in this area. Our defense is much improved and if we continue to defend and rebound, we will be a difficult team to beat."
The final regular season home game of the season will be this Thursday February 22nd against CVAC leading and #24 ranked Barton College. This game will be the last for seniors DeMario Grier, Tavares Cooper and Derick Brown. Tip-off will be at 7:30pm in Merner Gymnasium
Please come out and say "farewell" to these three senior student athletes, who have been major contributors to the Falcons' success over the past four seasons. And plan on arriving early, as our "Senior Nights" have tended to be some of the largest crowds of the year.
