| Misenheimer, NC---Robert McGriff hit two free throws with 2.1 seconds left in the game to give Pfeiffer a 111-110 win over conference leading Mount Olive in men's basketball action Monday night. Six Falcons scored in double figures as Pfeiffer improves to 13-4 overall and 9-2 in the conference. Mount Olive falls to 14-4 and 10-2. Logan Call hit a "3" to give Pfeiffer an early lead, 7-5, at the 17:22 mark. Derrick Truesdale hit a three-pointer to increase the Falcon lead to 20-14 at the 13:45 mark. Mount Olive cut the lead to two but Alvin Slaton hit a driving lay-up to put Pfeiffer up 38-34 with 8:15 left until halftime. The Trojans took a 46-45 lead at he 5:22 mark but the Falcns responded with a 6-0 run to regain the lead 51-46. Pfeiffer built their lead to 59-50 but the Trojans rallied and cut the Falcon lead to 63-60 at the break. Mount Olive started the second half with a 7-0 run. Pfeiffer regaind the lead at 74-73 at the 13:08 mark. Thomas Carr hit a three-pointer with 10:24 left to give Pfeiffer an 86-82 lead. The teams went back and forth over the next several minutes. Jeff Pettiway hit a driving lay-up with 4:45 to go to give Pfeiffer a 102-99 advantage. Robert McGriff hit a driving lay-up to give Pfeiffer a 109-106 lead with only 1:35 to go. Mount Olive took a 110-109 lead with only six seconds left but Robert MGriff was fouled on his way to the basket with 2.1 seconds left. McGriff stepped up and hit both free throws and the last shot from halfcourt by the Trojans missed to give Pfeiffer a 111-110 win. Six Falcons scored in double figures led by Petiway's 21. Chris Woods had 19 points and 11 rebounds. Kendrick Easley had 31 points to lead Mount Olive. Pfeiffer will host Limestone Thursday at 7:30 pm. |
