Pfeiffer Wins Lutz Inv. Championship

Misenheimer, NC---Pfeiffer defeated West Virginia State 96-81 Saturday afternoon to win the 2007 Bobby Lutz Invitaional Tournament. The game was tied at halftime but the Falcons turned it up in the second half and pulled away for a fifteen point victory. West Virginia State came out and took an early lead. With 11 minutes to go they held a 25-16 advantage. A Jeff Pettiway lay-up plus a free throw sparked a 7-0 Falcon run. With Pfeiffer down 31-27 with seven minutes left until halftime Robert McGriff scored 4 straight points to tie the game. An Alvin Slaton three -pointer with 3:40 to go gave Pfeifer a 37-36 lead. At halftime the game was tied at 43. West Virginia State grabbed an early lead in he second half but the Falcons fought back and when Logan Call hit a "3" the game was tied at 53 with 15:50 to go. A 5-0 Falcon run gave them a 62-57 lead with 13 minutes to go. Clyde Chapman hit a lay-up and free throw to give Pfeiffer a ten point lead at 70-60 with just under twelve minutes to go. Pfeiffer continued their strong play and when Thomas Carr hit a three-pointer with 1:37 to go to give the Falcons a 95-81 lead, the game was effectively over. Pfeiffer won 96-81. Robert McGriff had 22 points to lead Pfeiffer. Chris Woods had 16. Craig Thomas led with 7 rebounds. Wade Pidock led West Virginia State with 29 points and 11 reounds. Pfeiffer outrebounded their opponent 48-32 for the game.
