MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University men’s head cycling Coach Tommie Brock announced the signing of the 2009 North Carolina State Road Race Champion Justin Beard.
Beard, originally from Fayetteville now resides in Albemarle. He will be a transfer student having never raced in collegiate conference events prior to this season.
Currently, Beard is ranked number one in North Carolina road racing and Number Five in criterium racing. Pfeiffer Cycling ended last season as the 2009 ACCC (Atlantic Coast Cycling Conference) Champions. Pfeiffer raced and beat out top schools like Wake Forest, N.C. State, Duke, Navy, UNC-Wilmington, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, John’s Hopkins, and Appalachian State. Cycling also won the coveted D2 National jersey in Ft. Collins, Colorado during the Collegiate National Road Race in May.
Beard is considered to be not only a very fast sprinter but an excellent climber. “The cycling team is very lucky to have him racing at Pfeiffer”, said Brock. The team’s 2010 goal is to win the conference again, a feat that no other team has yet accomplished. As a sophomore, Beard should make an immediate impact on the team. With the help of the entire team and Beard, racing as an A, should make the upcoming race season a very exciting one.
