HIGH POINT, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Chris Woods (2-2 overall, 0-0 conf.) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's basketball Player of the Week during week number one in the 2009-10 season. Woods, a junior with the Falcon Basketball program, started the 2009-2010 season averaging 25 points in a 2-2 beginning for the Falcons, which includes a career-high 34 against an NCAA tournament team making it to the Southeast Region Championship a year ago, USC-Aiken.
Woods began the year with a 27-point effort in a season-opening loss to Cheyney. Woods followed up his Sunday performance with a game-high 23 in a 99-84 win over Livingstone. Against the Pacers, Woods dropped a double-double on the sweet 16 team from a year ago with his career-best 34 points and 10 rebounds. The junior from Thomasville, NC wrapped up the opening week with 16 points and six rebounds in a last minute loss to Catawba 97-94. Woods played in more minutes than any other Falcon averaging 6.75 rebounds/game in addition to his 25 points/game.
Woods and the Falcons get back to action tonight, November 24th in the Conference Carolinas opener against Lees-McRae at 7:30 p.m.
