RESULTS VS. QUEENS (2009-01-17 00:00:00)

Charlotte, NC -- The Pfeiffer men's basketball team defeated Queens in Charlotte for the 6th consecutive year on Saturday evening. The Falcons out rebounded the Royals 39-27 and forced 27 turnovers and shot a blistering 60% from the field in a 98-84 win. Pfeiffer ran off 15 consecutive first half points to a move a 10-10 tie to a 25-10 lead. The rest of game was spent with Pfeiffer taking leads of as many as 18 points and Queens valiantly fighting to cut the lead to as few as four points in the first half and seven in the second. Pfeiffer shot an incredible 73% (16-22) in the second half.
James "Spud" Crowder (High Point, NC) had an offensive explosion, scoring 25 points in only 23 minutes of playing time on 7-11 from the 3-point line and a pair of acrobatic dunks to lead four double figure scorers. Crowder added a team high eight rebounds and three steals. Freshman Davon Gilliard (Charleston, SC) had 15 points and six rebounds on 6-10 from the field and three assists. Chris Donald (Boston, MA) had 11 points on 5-6 shooting and Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) added 10 points for the Falcons. As has been the case all year, it was a true team effort on the offensive end as Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) added nine points, with Derrick Truesdale (Waxhaw, NC) and Lamar Bradbury (Charlotte, NC), who both played their high school basketball in Charlotte, added eight points each before the hometown crowd. Senior Robert McGriff (Lancaster, SC), who has been playing All-American basketball over the last five games was feeling a bit under the weather and attempted only two shots but had eight assists.
"It was an outstanding road win for our team and despite playing one of our best games of the year we could not shake Queens," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "Coach Wes Long is playing almost all freshman and sophomores and he has his young kids playing hard and aggressive. James Crowder was incredible tonight and made a lot of shots, but really made key shots during the several Queens come back attempts. James is working hard on his defense and played well on both ends. Davon was terrific as well, making several key baskets for us and he really hounded the basketball on the defensive end. Freshman Lamar Bradbury and senior Mike Davidson (Concord, NC) both gave our team a positive lift as we experienced incredible foul trouble in the first half. Our post trio of Woods, Bradbury and Athalie Rivera (Baltimore, MD) were a combined 10-15 from the field and this really opened things up on the perimeter for James. Our best player (McGriff) only attempted two shots and we were playing without Duke Johnson (Ville Platte, LA), who has been playing well, despite being injured all year. The team stepped up and got an outstanding win. We did a lot of good things tonight collectively but maybe most impressive was that Queens only had four offensive rebounds."
The Pfeiffer win was its second in a row and the 10th win over Queens in their last 12 meetings. The Falcons, who are 7-6 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas, travel to St. Andrews on Monday marking their 11th road game in their first 14 games this season before returning home Thursday to play Anderson.Queens University of Charlotte Basketball - Game Box Score Queens University of Charlotte Queens vs. Pfeiffer University Falcons Date: 01/16/2009 Time: 7:30pm Site: Charlotte, N.C.
