HARVEY SCORES CAREER-HIGH 19; WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SUFFERS FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS TO BARTON 89-64

WILSON, N.C. – A career-high night in scoring by Christina Harvey wasn’t enough as the Pfeiffer University Lady Falcons suffered their first Conference Carolinas defeat of the season, dropping an 89-64 decision to the Barton Lady Bulldogs in women’s basketball action on Wednesday night. Barton, led by Esty Flores’ 21 points, improves their record to 6-5 overall, 5-1 in league play. Despite Harvey’s 19 points, the Lady Falcons fall to 5-6, 5-1.

Barton shot 50.7% from the field compared to Pfeiffer’s 33.3%. Janetta Robinson drained a three just 37 seconds in as the Lady Bulldogs took the lead and never looked back. Robinson, scoring 15 on the night, put the hosts up 16 at the halfway point of the period with a another basket giving Barton a 25-9 advantage. The Lady Falcons attempted a comeback with an 18-4 run as the half came to a close thanks to 13 points by Harvey. Kellie Rhoney also knocked down a three in the streak.

Barton, taking a 10-point lead to the break, came out and doubled that advantage within the first five minutes of the second half as the Lady Falcons offense cooled off. A pair of layups by Robinson and Flores helped propel the Lady Bulldogs out to the comfortable lead. Pfeiffer managed just 27 second-half points that resulted in the in 25-point loss.

Along with Harvey, Charlotte Fuller was the only other Lady Falcon to finish in double-digits with 11 points. For the Lady Bulldogs, Jamila Johnson sandwiched herself in-between Flores and Robinson with 17 points. Pfeiffer did play without its second-leader scorer, Brittany Cox, who missed the contest with an injury.

The Lady Falcons will look to rebound after a couple of days off, traveling to Charlotte to take on Queens this Saturday night. Tip-time is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Ovens Athletic Center.
