BANNER ELK, N.C. – Led by a career-high 25 points from Davon Gilliard and double-double by Chris Woods, Pfeiffer University scored a 108-94 road win over Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Thursday night. Woods also dropped in 25 points along with a game-high 10 boards as the Falcons improve to 11-6 overall, 7-4 in conference play. The loss sends the Bobcats to 2-16, 1-10.
The Falcons grabbed a fast 7-0 lead on a pair of baskets by Woods and Reggie Hollinger with a James Crowder three-ball sandwiched in between. Another Crowder triple at 11:02 gave the visitors their largest lead of the night at 29-14 before Gilliard snapped a mini rally by Lees-McRae with his own three with 4:24 to go in the period. After the Bobcats cut the lead to one with just under two minutes remaining, Pfeiffer closed out the half with five straight points for a 54-48 lead at the break.

Hollinger came up with a steal and layup 4:12 into the second period before Gilliard would deliver his points later in the period. Gilliard came up with four free throws in a 45 second span that put the Falcons back up 10 before sparking a 7-0 run with under five minutes to play. From there in the final minutes, Pfeiffer would hold a healthy double-digit lead to the end.
Gilliard was 7-of-10 from the field draining his only shot from behind the arc and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Along with Gilliard and Woods, Jeff Pettiway finished in double-figures tossing in 17. For the Bobcats, Adam McFerran led with 22 followed by Sam Youse’s 20.
