MISENHEIMER, N.C. – By the end of the third inning on Tuesday afternoon, every Pfeiffer University starter had at-least one hit as the Falcons baseball team routed Tusculum 22-6 at Joe Ferebee Field. Six of the nine starters had three hits or more as the Falcons pounded out 25 total improving to 6-8 overall. The Pioneers fall to 5-6 after surrendering the school-record runs and hits outburst to Pfeiffer.
The Falcons put five runs on the board in each of the first two innings as Myles Pearl (High Point, NC) began the day with a solo-HR to center. This tied the contest at 1-1 after Jared Richmond (Fort Smith, AR) had an RBI double in the top of the first. Later in the first, Eric Shoemaker (Huntersville, NC) delivered a three-run blast to right-center putting the Falcons up four.
In the second, Shoemaker had the big blow again with a two-run single to right. Preston Lyon (Gastonia, NC) and Josh Strickland (Liberty, NC) had the other RBI in the frame with base hits. Will Davis (New London, NC) scored his second RBI of the day in the third bringing in Zack Pou (Stanley, NC).
After an unearned run by Tusculum in the fourth, Pfeiffer exploded for seven more runs widening the margin to 16. Strickland capped off the inning with a two-run double to left with five other Falcons, Pearl, Pou, Lyon, Aarin Sharpe (Winterville, NC) and Davis each brought in another run.
Shoemaker finished the day with five RBI while Lyon, Davis and Strickland each had three. Lyon had four hits and four runs scored in five plate appearances while Sharpe ended up with seven at-bats in eight innings picking up three hits. Nate Grabowski (Pennellville, NY) and Sean Finucane (Cortland, NY) each had a pair of hits for the Pioneers.
The Falcons are back in action at home on Wednesday as Pfeiffer hosts #21 UNC-Pembroke at 2:00 p.m. weather permitting.
