MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Hosting the Johnny Palmer Invitational at the Old North State Club on Monday and Tuesday, the men’s golf team at Pfeiffer University finished in the runners-up position six strokes back on Guilford College. The Falcons finished second out of nine teams entered with a two-day total of 621 (316/305) on the par 72, 7,102-yard layout. Pfeiffer also had nine players in the individual’s competition.
Pfeiffer stood in third place behind Guilford and Lenoir-Rhyne after day one in soggy conditions. Day two brought a dryer layout allowing for the Falcons to gain some ground. L-R finished in a tie with Pfeiffer at 621, led by medalist Jason Garrett’s rounds of 70-71 for a three-under par 141. Playing as an individual, Cameron Fields finished T-2nd with 76-73 for a 149 tournament score.
The Pfeiffer “gold” team counted as the team score led by Parker Robertson’s 75-79. Laurence Noott finished a stroke behind at 155 (77-78) while Jonathan Miles concluded at 157 (84-73). Marc Kourie and Tyson Louth rounded out team scoring as both shot 82-77 for tournament totals of 159.
As individuals behind Fields’ 149, Stephen Schroeder finished T-19 with a 158 (79-79), Garrett Dranichak 159 (82-77), J.D. Lamm 162 (79-83), Thomas Sennett 165 (85-80), Chad Nicholson (90-78) and Ben Tobey (88-80) 168, while Adam Davey (81-88) and Chadd Marburger (86-84) concluded with 169 and 170, respectively.
The men’s golf team will get back to action this Monday and Tuesday participating in the Rendleman Invitational, hosted by Catawba College in Salisbury, NC.
