MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Preston Lyon and Eric Shoemaker each hit long balls apart of four RBI days as Pfeiffer University knocked off Lake Erie College 14-3 in baseball action on Monday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field. The Falcons blew it open with a seven run eighth inning pushing their overall mark to 9-10 on the season. The Storm lose their first of the year evening to 1-1.
Pfeiffer put a five-spot on the board in the third as Lyon picked up his first RBI with a single that scored Carlos Badillo. Aarin Sharpe followed with a base hit that brought in Zack Pou before Shoemaker went deep for the three-run homer. Michael Brucchieri delivered a sacrifice fly in the Lake Erie fourth to put the Storm on the board.
After Badillo led off the home half of the fourth with a double, Lyon brought him in with his two-run shot. The Storm would bounce back with two in the fifth to make it a 7-3 ballgame. Matt Lott brought in Ryan Rua with a single before Jae Leeworthy doubled home Brandon James.
Jesse Dunn led off the Pfeiffer seven-run eighth with a solo home run. Myles Pearl later reached on an error, but still received the RBI for plating Badillo. Pou picked up his final RBI scoring Pearl with another base hit, later scoring himself on Lyon’s double. Shoemaker, Josh Strickland and Dunn each secured the other runs batted in during the frame by reaching on an error, hitting a sac-fly and drilling a two-base hit.
Along with Lyon and Shoemaker, Badillo, Dunn and Sharpe paced the offense each having a pair of hits. Jacob Moore earned the win for the Falcons in relief tossing 1.2 innings, surrendering one hit, one walk and struck out three. Mike Morgan had the only multi-hit game for the Storm with two.
Pfeiffer will continue its ten game homestand with contest number six on Wednesday. The Falcons will entertain Lander at 2:30 p.m.
