MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University scored their first Conference Carolinas victory in women’s tennis with a 7-2 victory at Converse on Tuesday afternoon. Pfeiffer took two of the three doubles matches helping them improve to 5-2 overall, 1-2 in league play. The Valkyries loss dips them to 1-7, 1-6.
Pfeiffer got a couple of early points as the number two doubles tandem of Maddy Billeter and Jonnell Carpenter scored an 8-3 win just in front of Catie Thomas and Chelsi Haefele notching an 8-4 victory at #3. Converse’s initial point came in the first doubles match as Olivia Self/Lindsey Kelly defeated the Lady Falcons Alena Krutkina/Patty Dominguez 8-6.
In singles at one and two, both Krutkina and Dominguez got revenge over Self and Kelly with straight set wins. Krutkina cruised 6-3, 6-0 while Dominguez went love and four in her match. Billeter registered a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Wilkes in the third spot while Thomas blanked Cantey 6-0, 6-0. At number six, Haefele became victorious three and four while Gulnora Yuldasheva tallied the final Converse point with a 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 11-9 win over Carpenter in the fifth position.
Pfeiffer will have less than 24 hours to celebrate their first conference victory having to travel to Coker on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Falcons will tangle with the Lady Cobras beginning at 2:30 p.m.
