RESULTS VS. LIMESTONE (2009-01-24 00:00:00)

Gaffney, SC -- Several Pfeiffer basketball players and coaches watched Duke dismantle Maryland on TV Saturday afternoon and it must have inspired the Falcons because they went to Limestone Saturday night and did a great impression. Pfeiffer held Limestone to just 17 first half points and 19 percent shooting to jump to a 45-17 lead at the break. Pfeiffer extended the lead to forty-five points, 83-38 with just over eight minutes to play. The Falcons out rebounded the Saints 63-32 and held Limestone to 30 percent shooting to win for the fourth time in five games.
Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) was 8-10 and Duke Johnson (Ville Platte, LA) was 7-9 from the field to score 17 and 15 respective points to lead Pfeiffer. Woods added nine rebounds in his nineteen minutes of playing time. Derrick Truesdale (Waxhaw, NC) celebrated his birthday in grand style, ripping a career high 11 rebounds to go with seven points. Chris Donald (Boston, MA) had 13 points and six rebounds. James Crowder (High Point, NC) had 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four assists and Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) rounded out the double figure scoring with 11 points. Pettiway was 3-5 from beyond the arc making him 9-14 over his past two games from long range. Pfeiffer shared the basketball well, as Robert McGriff (Lancaster, SC) had seven assists and Alvin Slaton (Fayetteville, NC) added five assists and six rebounds. Pfeiffer had 11 different players score in the game.
"Limestone at Limestone had really been a thorn in our side in the recent past," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "Senior Robert McGriff grew up right down the street in Lancaster and he had never won in three previous tries in this gym and his teammates were determined he would go out a winner. Defense and rebounding wins championships and our guys displayed both tonight. Defense is not something we have been accused of very often this season and is was nice to see our guys lock in and really shut a team down. The rebounding advantage was phenomenal especially in the first half when we led 35-13 on the boards. Derrick Truesdale has really worked on his rebounding and him coming up with eleven tonight was a big lift for our team. Chris Woods was a force on the inside and we are a different team when he plays like he can. Duke was incredible on the offensive end and he has been injured all year but you would not have known it tonight. Road wins are so difficult in our league and to win in this fashion is very,very rare for anyone."
Pfeiffer moves to 9-7 on the season and 6-3 in Conference Carolina's and travels to Erskine on Monday giving them their 13th road game in 17 games this season.
