MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University picked up a 7-2 victory over Catawba College in non-conference men’s tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. The Falcons improve to 6-3 overall while Catawba drops to 12-9.
A 2-1 match came down to singles play as Philip Lawson/Johan de Wit scored an 8-3 win in the first doubles match while Ryan Kerr/Michael Worthington won 8-4. In the middle, Luis Villalta and Sid Kaushik fell victim to Uri Yarkoni and Tom McCormack 8-3.
McCormack secured Catawba’s only other match point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Frank Pouchet in number four singles. At the top, Lawson and de Wit won in straight sets for the Falcons one and love, five and love.
Kaushik bounced back with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in three singles while Kerr also went the distance in a 6-7, 7-6, 10-7 victory. Worthington picked up the final point with a 6-2, 7-6 win in the sixth singles position.
Pfeiffer will return home to the Knapp Tennis Center on Saturday hosting Barton in a 1:00 p.m. Conference Carolinas match.
