MISENHEIMER, N.C. – With a 2-1 match score heading into singles play, Pfeiffer University went on to claim all six singles matches on their way to an 8-1 win over visiting Barton in Conference Carolinas women’s tennis on Saturday afternoon. The win at the Knapp Tennis Center moves the Lady Falcons to 9-4 overall, 3-2 in league play. The Bulldogs dip to 6-9, 3-3.
In the first session, Pfeiffer went on to victory in the first and second doubles matches with 8-3 and 8-2 wins. The number one team of Alena Krutkina/Jonnell Carpenter defeated Blair Burke and Lindsay Toth while Patty Dominguez/Maddy Billeter beat Jaime Galasso/Kristen Packer. The Bulldogs lone point came at number three with Lindsey Frederick/Sarah Dice knocking off Pfeiffer’s Catie Thomas/Chelsi Haefele 8-6.
The first four singles match went easily into the hands of Pfeiffer with straight set wins. Krutkina went 6-0, 6-2 against Blair while Dominguez went two and love over Toth. Billeter notched a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Galasso in number three action while Thomas went three and two over Frederick. In the fifth and sixth positions, Carpenter needed a 10-6 tiebreak third set for the win as did Haefele at number six.
The Lady Falcons get back to action on Tuesday and Wednesday hitting the road for a pair of Conference Carolinas matches at Queens and Limestone. Both matches will begin at 2:00 p.m.
