BATTLE OF LEAGUE'S TOP TWO TEAMS RESULTS IN AN 11-7 WIN FOR #4 LIMESTONE OVER WOMEN'S LACROSSE

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – A balanced attack on offense and defense led Limestone College to an 11-7 victory over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. Led by Raquel Prager (Seaford, NY) and Katie Ilott’s (Brooklin, Ontario) three goals apiece, the fourth-ranked Lady Saints improve to 13-1 overall, 5-0 in league play. The Lady Falcons suffer their first conference setback of the season falling to 10-5, 4-1.

Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, NY) started the day off quickly for Limestone with her first of two on the day just 26 seconds in. Renee Albro (Purcellville, VA) put the visitors up 2-0 nine minutes later before Heidi Karaszkiewicz (Glen Burnie, MD) found the back of the net for Pfeiffer, thanks to a Jessica Kennedy (Perth, Australia) assist, to put the Lady Falcons on the board at 20:04. Less than three minutes later, Karaszkiewicz helped out on Sarah Hebberd’s (Golden, CO) strike for a 2-2 contest.

Limestone rallied back to score the next two on an Ilott free position shot and unassisted tally by Chelsea Hargett (Ithaca, NY) at the 12:38 and 8:50 marks of the first half. Jessica Moulton (Huntingtown, MD) traded goals with Ilott in the final 7:23 as the Lady Saints held a 5-3 advantage at the break.

Prager single-handedly took over for the Saints to start the second half with all three of her goals coming in the first five and a half minutes to catapult Limestone to an 8-3 lead. Her first pair of strikes were on free position shots while Treat assisted on her third at 24:30. Karaszkiewicz cut the lead in half at 8-4 with an unassisted goal at 15:15, before Treat and Karaszkiewicz swapped free position strikes for a 9-5 Lady Saints lead with 10:57 to play.

Both teams went scoreless for the next seven minutes until Ilott took a Prager pass and found the back of the net at 3:35 for a five goal margin. Pfeiffer tried to rally back with Allie Gamble (Easton, MD) and Tory Binder (Woodstock, MD) goals at 3:04 and 2:29, but Limestone ran out the clock adding a Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, NY) goal with 29 seconds left in the win.

Rashelle McLellan (East Lyme, CT) picked up the win in goal turning away 11 Lady Falcon shots. Treat led the Lady Saints with three groundballs, along with Oterson, and a pair of caused turnovers. Amanda Smith (Hagerstown, MD) and Hebberd each had four groundballs for Pfeiffer while Smith and Alex Cook (Commack, NY) had a pair of CT’s. Limestone outshot Pfeiffer 32-22 while the Lady Falcons committed twice as many fouls at 31-15.

Pfeiffer will host Erskine on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the final home game of 2010. Limestone also returns to action on Tuesday hosting Converse at the same time.
