MEN'S LACROSSE DROPS REGULAR SEASON FINALE TO #4 LIMESTONE 9-5; FACE SAINTS IN SEMIS ON FRIDAY

GAFFNEY, S.C. — The fourth-ranked Limestone College men’s lacrosse team utilized a balanced scoring attack in route to a 9-5 victory over Conference Carolinas and NCAA Division II South Region Rival Pfeiffer University on Senior Day at “The Rock” on Saturday extending its win streak to seven.  The Saints, regular season conference champions, posted a 5-0 mark versus conference teams and are now 9-1 overall including a 9-0 mark in the region.  Pfeiffer closed out league play 2-3 and 8-8 overall. 

Limestone senior Jake Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y.) scored four goals and added an assist totaling a game high five points to pace a Saints attack that had six different goal scorers and outshot the Pfeiffer 44-17.   Limestone had five players that registered one goal each and those were senior Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, MD), juniors Teddy Prager (Columbus, OH), Jeff Santo (Timonium, MD) and Sam Buppert (Eldersburg, MD), in addition to sophomore Jackson Decker (Port Moody, British Columbia).  Decker and senior face-off specialist Sean Bennett (East Moriches, N.Y.) added assist one assist each.  Buppert also had a team and game tying best three caused turnovers for unit that generated 26 turnovers on the day.

Bennett also anchored Limestone at the center “x” going 13-for-17 while the Saints were 14-of-18 as a team.  In addition Bennett grabbed a game high eight ground balls, while Prager had five and senior Nick LaRocca (Amherst, N.Y.) four, as Limestone held an overall 40-19 advantage in that category.

As for clear attempts, Limestone was 16-of-17 (.941%) and limited a Pfeiffer team that entered with an average rate of .837% to only .586% on Saturday as the Falcons were 17-of-29.

Leading the way on the offensive end for Pfeiffer was sophomore Justin Rose (Rochester, N.Y.) who scored four goals while senior Derrick Ensor (Finksburg, MD) added one.  Falcons’ senior goalie Jimmy Dyches (Abingdon, MD) made 12 saves while freshman Kirby Upshaw (Orono, Ontario), junior Phil Fahy (Lima, N.Y.) and senior Jameson Schultz (High Point, N.C.) each had three groundballs.

The Saints and Falcons will now turn around and meet again on Friday, April 23, in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament hosted by Queens University of Charlotte with the face-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex.  Limestone is the top-seed while Pfeiffer is the fourth-seed.  The winner will advance to the title game on Sunday, April 25th at 4:00 p.m. and play the winner between second-seeded Queens and third-seeded Belmont Abbey.
