Hartsville, SC – The Pfeiffer University Falcons fell to the Trojans of Mount Olive College 3-2 Saturday afternoon and then dropped an evening game 6-5 to the Knights of St. Andrews Presbyterian College in the double-elimination Conference Carolinas softball tournament. The Falcons ended their season with an overall record of 26-17.
In their first game of the day, Pfeiffer led Mount Olive 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Trojans scored two runs to go ahead 3-2. The Falcons were unable to plate another run before the end of the game. Pfeiffer had 7 hits in the game, while the Trojans had only 5.
Martina Bullard (Godwin, NC) was 2-3 with one run scored, while Stephanie Bethea (Greensboro, NC) also scored a run and was 1-2 at the plate. Heather Nobles (Ainger, NC) was 1-3 with one RBI and Ranzy York (Milton-Freewater, OR) tallied Pfeiffer’s other RBI. Allison Braswell (Asheboro, NC) suffered the loss for the Falcons, going six innings giving up five hits and three earned runs. She walked two and struck out four in 26 batters faced.
In the late game, St. Andrews got on the board with two runs in the first inning. Pfeiffer responded in the second with three of its own. The Falcons added another in the fourth, but so did the Knights in the fifth. The Knights took the lead 6-4 by added three runs in the seventh. Pfeiffer managed one more, but was unable to tie the game to force extra innings or take the lead. Pfeiffer had nine hits compared to St. Andrews’ six.
Bryttny Kreshka (Roseburg, OR) led the Falcons by going 2-2 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. Brittany Waldon (Port Orchard, WA) was 1-2 with one RBI and one run scored. Amanda Beck (Thomasville, NC) also tallied one RBI and one run while going 1-3. She pitched for the Falcons and suffered the loss. Beck threw 4.2 innings giving up four hits and four earned runs. She walked two and struck out one in 21 batters faced.
