MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University and Newberry College battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie in men’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. Both goals came in the second half as both the Falcons and Wolves had chances to end it in regulation. Newberry moves to 1-4-2 overall while Pfeiffer increases to 1-3-2.
In the first half, Pfeiffer put four shots on goal in the span of 10 seconds during the game’s seventh minute as Dany Bardizbanian (Milledgeville, GA) and Johannes Tisell (Moindal, SWEDEN) each had two with Wolves keeper Patrick Sweatt (Indian Land, SC) turning all four away, two from point blank range.
Scoring got underway just before the hour as Shane Robinson (Charleston, SC) put home his second of the year in the 59th minute. Adrian Ochoa (East Point, GA) picked up the assist sending a short cross over to Robinson who found the lower left corner for a 1-0 Newberry lead.
With just under seven minutes remaining in regulation, Pfeiffer finally converted one of their 12 shots on goal as Tisell beat Sweatt to the left in the 84th minute. Alex Landim (Brockton, MA) corralled a turnover at midfield by Newberry before finding Tisell for the equalizer.
For the match, Sweatt made 10 saves in net for the Wolves as did Alex Moreno (Huntersville, NC) for the Falcons. Newberry out-shot Pfeiffer 24-22 in 110 minutes of soccer as both teams registered a dozen shots on goal.
The Falcons will return home on Saturday to host Limestone during homecoming weekend. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. at N.E. Lefko Field with live stats available through www.gofalconsports.com.
