SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Pfeiffer University picked up its first sweep of the season in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball action with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-23) victory at Converse College on Friday night. The win pushes the Lady Falcons record to 3-11 overall, 3-4 in league play jumping up to sixth in the standings. The loss dips the Valkyries to 3-13, 2-7.
The Lady Falcons attack was lead by senior Kristina Mordini (Freeport, IL) and sophomore Abbie Ovbey (Mt. Gilead, NC), racking up 26 kills, 10 digs, and four blocks combined while receiving support from junior setter Colleen Wands (Apex, NC) with 24 assists. Defensively the Falcons were lead by Kaci Markham and Jordan O’Bryant with 11 and 9 digs respectively.
Converse College saw success offensively with Val Thoms (Menesha, WI) and Katherine Buehler (Mooresville, NC) with nine and 11 kills, respectively. Kandace Griffin (Birmingham, AL) and Lauren Hunsberger (Duncan, SC) racked up 14 and 13 assists, respectively. Defensively, Bri Scalf (Jacksonville, FL), Val Thoms, and Kandace Griffin each recorded 19, 15, and 10 digs, respectively.
Pfeiffer will return home for a matchup with first place Lees-McRae on Tuesday night. The Lady Falcons and Lady Bobcats will get things underway at 7:00 p.m.
