MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Using a pair of first half goals and five saves by goal keeper Alex Moreno (Huntersville, NC), Pfeiffer University blanked Coker College 3-0 in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. The win at N.E. Lefko field pushes the Falcons to 2-6-3 overall, 2-3-1 in league play. The Cobras loss dips them to 6-4-4, 3-2-2.
Scoring started in the 19th minute with a rare own goal registered by the Falcons. Boo Tesh (Kannapolis, NC) sent a hard cross from the end line towards the goal mouth that was deflected in by a Coker defender for the match’s first tally. With just under 10 minutes left in the half, Jeff Cannon (Lewis Center, OH) flicked in his second of the season as Fahret Salihovic (Charlotte, NC) sent a cross over to the midfielder similar to the one earlier in the match when Pfeiffer went up 1-0.
Tesh and the Falcons added an insurance goal in the 80th minute for the second half’s only strike. Tesh worked a little give and go with Alex Landim (Brockton, MA) to put home his first of the year.
Coker out-shot Pfeiffer 21-14 overall, 6-5 on goal led by Storm Wishart’s (Brampton, ONTARIO) five shots, three on cage. Pfeiffer will return to action on Saturday afternoon traveling to Barton for a 3:00 p.m. match with the Bulldogs.
