WILSON, NC - Pfeiffer University secured a berth in the eight-team Conference Carolinas Tournament on Saturday afternoon by spoiling Barton's homecoming, 2-1, in men's soccer action. The Falcons built a 2-0 lead and held on against the Bulldogs, who slipped to 5-9-1 overall and 2-11 in conference play. Pfeiffer (3-6-3 overall) is now 7th of 10 teams in the league standings and Barton is 8th. The Bulldogs saw a four-game win streak come to an end.
The Falcons, who were outshot 8-4, got on the board first in the fifth minute when a Barton defender turned the ball over in the box and Johannes Tisell quickly pounded a shot into the net. The lead grew to 2-0 in the 15th minute when Dany Bardizbanian served the ball ahead, where Ethan Sacco hit a one-touch blast into the upper right corner.
Barton climbed within 2-1 in the 73rd minute. Luke Costanza served a ball into the box that Archer Bane headed into the upper right corner. Barton applied a lot of pressure in the ensuing minutes, but could not tie the match.
Alex Moreno made six saves in goal for the Falcons and Brian Riesenberg notched two saves for Barton, which had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
