SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Pfeiffer University competed in double dual meet hosted by Converse College with Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Charlie Melesh broke the school record for fastest time in the 1,000 yard freestyle as the Falcons claimed a 165-83 win over the Bears. The Lady Falcons split their meets on the day taking a 130-105 victory over the Lady Bears while falling to the host Valkyries 182-63.
The men’s afternoon started with a 200 yard medley relay win with Matt Money, Jim Roddenbery, Zach McMichael and George Moreno. Those four finished 1.06 seconds in front of teammates Mark Franz, Ian Chamberlain, Andrew Corley and Edwin Torres.
Event four is when Melesh set the new mark in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:59.46 eclipsing the old time set by Torres two years ago with a time of 9:59.87. Franz and McMichael would take the top two spots in the men’s 200 free while Money and Torres took top spots in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.
Roddenbery and Corley jumped on the finishing in the top spot parade with individual victories in the 200 fly and 50 free. Corley and Melesh wrapped up individual wins in the 200 back and 100 fly before the Falcons took the top two spots in the final relay, the 200 free.
On the Lady Falcons side, solid top-five finishes led to the 25 point win over Lenoir-Rhyne. Although the Lady Falcons didn’t win an event, those top finishes, led by Yukina Onoda’s pair of second place finishes in the 100 and 200 back stroke. Morgan Dionne and Samantha Maness soaked up several of those top five spots as well.
Both sides are back in action on Saturday and Sunday swimming in Wingate’s Fall Frenzy. The two day event will be held at Charlotte’s Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center (MCAC) starting at 9 a.m.
