COLD SHOOTING NIGHT DOOMS MEN'S BASKETBALL IN 65-52 LOSS AT VIRGINIA STATE

PETERSBURG, V.A. Ė Playing their third contest in four nights and traveling for their first true road game of the season, the Pfeiffer University menís basketball team hit a bit of a road block in a 65-52 loss at Virginia State on Monday night. Pfeiffer ended the evening a rare 0-for-18 from behind the arc as the Trojans win their 2010-2011 season opener. The Falcons suffer their first loss of the year now at 2-1.

Pfeiffer shot just 30% from the field seeing the lowest point total for a game in a decade. Reggie Hollinger led all scorers with 18 points while Chris Woods finished with 16. A Woods free throw with 13:25 remaining in the first half gave the Falcons their only lead of the night at 5-4.

The Trojans were led by Brandon Plummerís 13 points and Mike Bynumís 11. Davon Charity was the third and final VSU player to finish in double-digits with 10. Virginia State shot just 40% from the field as the Falcon defense allowed just 30 second half points.

The Falcons now get some time off before participating in the Catawba Classic on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Pfeiffer will take on their third-straight CIAA opponent in Winston-Salem State at 4:00 p.m. Saturday while the Falcons take on host Catawba at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
