SALISBURY, N.C. – Pfeiffer University and Tusculum College combined for 31 runs and 36 hits as the Pioneers collected a wild 20-11 victory over the Falcons in baseball action on Saturday afternoon. Each team traded eight run innings during the affair as Tusculum wins its season opener. Pfeiffer evens their early mark to 1-1.

After a pair of Pioneer runs in the first, Pfeiffer exploded for eight unearned runs after a crucial error. With two outs and a runner at first, Hunter Boehme reached on a fielding error at third. Preston Lyon, Jon Gray and Aarin Sharpe had the other RBI while Sharpe scored on an inning ending run down kept alive by Eric Shoemaker.
The Pioneers responded with four in their second using two of their five home runs. Matt Henriksen hit his first of two on the day for a lead-off tally, while Alexi Colon belted a two-run shot later in the frame. After Gray’s blast in the fourth put the Falcons up 9-7, Tusculum put up their eight spot in the fifth to grab a 15-9 lead.
Henriksen, along with Branfy Arias, each mashed two-run shots while Henriksen continued his season opening tear with two more RBI on a double down the right field line in his second at-bat of the inning. Shoemaker later added a solo round-tripper for the Falcons leading off the seventh. Pfeiffer would commit four errors in the loss to Tusculum’s one in the fifth.
Henriksen paced the Pioneers with a 3-for-5 day finishing with two homers and five RBI as one of seven with at-least two hits. Sharpe led the Falcons with a 3-for-4 outing as one of five Falcons picking up at-least a pair of hits.
