MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University sophomore Bryan Tuttle (Lenoir, NC) tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts leading the Falcons to a 3-1 victory over Francis Marion University on Sunday afternoon. The win gives Pfeiffer a weekend split with the Patriots improving to 4-3 overall while FMU dips their mark to 2-3.

The Falcon offense supported Tuttle in the second inning with a two-out rally to post a pair of runs on the board. Tyler Smith (Locust, NC) and Kevin Price (Asheville, NC) started the rally on back-to-back hit by pitches by Patriot starter Joe Wagstaff (Zebulon, NC).

After a wild pitch moved both runners up 90 feet, Smith would score the game’s first run on a passed ball by FMU catcher Zac Livingston (Goodyear, AZ). Hunter Boehme (Winston-Salem, NC) quickly followed with a RBI-single to center to put the hosts up 2-0.

In the fourth, an unearned run would help pushed the lead to three as Smith reached first on a fielding error at third, plating later on a Jacob Yates (Blairs, VA) two-out single to center.

Francis Marion would get their run across in the fifth as Brock McAllister (Laurel, MD) reached on a fielder’s choice by hustling to first beating out a potential double play. After a double to left off the bat of Tyler Cappelmann (Sumter, SC), McAllister would score on an errant wild pitch from Tuttle for their only run of the day.

The Patriots threatened in the ninth with a leadoff single from Buddy Sosnoskie (Statesville, NC), but he would soon be erased on a crucial 5-4-3 double play induced by Tuttle off the bat of Preston Shuey (Charlotte, NC). The pitcher’s best friend proved to be a big play in the ninth as Chris Honeycutt (Fort Mills, SC) came up with a double in the next at-bat. Falcon shortstop Preston Lyon (Gastonia, NC) then made a diving catch on Sam Pepper’s (Tabernacle, NJ) line drive to end the game.

Tuttle went the distance on Sunday allowing one run on five hits in the win. The right-hander issues just two walks to go along with his seven strikeouts. Yates, along with Jon Gray (Granite Falls, NC) each had a pair of hits in the win. Five different Patriots collected the five base hits on the day for the visitors.

Pfeiffer will take Monday off before entertaining UNC-Pembroke and Carson-Newman on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. First pitch with the Braves on Tuesday is set for 2:00 p.m. Live stats and live audio will be available through www.gofalconsports.com.
