MELESH AND BONNEL HAVE BIG DAYS AS WOMEN'S LACROSSE ROLLS TO SEASON-OPENING 21-5 WIN AT LENOIR-RHYNE

HICKORY, N.C. – Pfeiffer University netted the first seven goals on Saturday morning en route to a 21-5 season opening win at Lenoir-Rhyne University in non-conference women’s lacrosse action at Moretz Stadium. Liz Melesh and Shannon Bonnel each tallied four goals as the Lady Falcons win their season opener while the Bears start their inaugural year 0-2.

Sarah Hebberd started the day’s scoring just 41 seconds in as Melesh and Bonnel quickly followed for a 3-0 lead. Rachel Hebberd and Katherine Atkins each followed with their first collegiate goals of the season while Sarah Hebberd and Alex Cook made it 7-0 coming up on the halfway point of the first. Lenoir-Rhyne struck for back-to-back tallies from Rachel Hall and Hayley Beattie but Pfeiffer rattled off the next five goals to take a 13-3 lead at the break.

The Bears put home two quick goals to start the second as Sarah Minick and Beattie made it 13-5, but Pfeiffer rolled to the end with the next eight unanswered goals. Athens added two more in that stretch with Bonnel while Melesh netted three within an eight minute span.

Pfeiffer will head to Belmont Abbey for a non-conference tilt on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
